Product Information

The inventor and manufacturer of the iconic Maillon Rapide® (“Quick Link”) system, Peguet has released three generations of this universal product. Designed in France, it comes in a wide range of shapes and materials, and is adapted for both the industrial and sporting markets. Standard Maillon Rapide Quick Links were developed on the principle of a chain link fitted with manual threaded opening. The iconic shape and versatile functionality has found countless uses across different industries.

Recommendations

  • Visual check of complete nut screwing compulsory; no thread must be showing.
  • Maillon Rapide quick links are only to be loaded along the major axis.
  • Maillon Rapide quick links should be carefully checked at regular intervals. If you are in any doubt about the safety of a quick link after checking, replace it with a new one.
  • When fastened with a wrench up to the proper tightening torque, Maillon Rapide quick links are considered a permanent connector.
  • Maillon Rapide should always be fitted with parts made of same material.
  • When connected with chain, Maillon Rapide quick links should be of the same diameter.
  • Never connnect any Maillon Rapide quick links onto a lifting chain.
  • Stainless steel Maillon Rapide quick links may be used in salt water.

Marking according to Standards EN 362 & EN 12275 – P.P.E. – Personal Protective Equipment

Maillon Rapide quick links used as a connector on P.P.E. (personal protective equipment) against falls from heights, mountaineering and rock climbing, are distinguished by a specific marking in relation with following European standards:

  • EN 362 standard - industrial P.P.E.: fall arrest systems, work restraint, work positioning, rope access.
  • EN 12275 standard - mountaineering P.P.E.: rock climbing, climbing walls, caving, canyoning.

Breaking strength in kN is identified on Péguet Maillon Rapide quick links meant for application in P.P.E. Breaking strength must not be under 25 kN.
When used in P.P.E., the breaking strength engraved on the Maillon Rapide quick links clearly identifies the maximum load.

Individual ID marking: a specific laser marking is added to the usual marking, providing users with an interesting option in terms of product check, while no data collection shall be made by Péguet. This option is available exclusively on P.P.E. certified Maillon Rapide quick links – EN 362 / EN 12275 standards.

The product range for P.P.E. in mountaineering also carries the U.I.A.A. label (International Mountaineering and Climbing Federation). According to legislation, a user instruction is required with each EN 362 & EN 12275-certified Maillon Rapide quick link, sold or used as a connector when fitted on P.P.E.

Materials

Material Specification - AISI 316L Stainless Steel

Manufactured from AISI 316L austenitic stainless steel (18% chromium, 12% nickel, 2-2.5% molybdenum) with a very low carbon content to reduce the risk of inter- granular corrosion.

Offers enhanced corrosion resistance compared with standard 18/10 (304) stainless steel, particularly in marine environments and in the presence of chlorides and dilute sulphuric acids.

Suitable for most environments where 18/10 stainless performs well, except those involving nitric acid.
